Not long ago, going the self-publishing route was considered the kiss of death. No one would touch your book unless it was pristine, never sullied by any form of publication.<br /><br />Well, we don't live in that world anymore. Smart publishers are looking -- as you've pointed out -- for talent that takes some of the risks on their own shoulders. They want to see that an author can build an audience. And as it becomes more and more important to connect with fans, they want proof that you know how to do that, too.<br /><br />Because they sure as heck don't. It's not their job. It's becoming the authors job. Which scares many who don't want to -- or don't know how to -- become hard-core self-promoters.<br /><br />But the change is coming. Granted, it will effect some publishers and authors faster, some slower. And for a while at least, some not at all.<br /><br />Me?
